Tutoring for Young Writers

Improve your young writer's composition skills through unique one-on-one sessions that focus on developing his or her own stories--their own words.

Your young writer will learn the basics of grammar, punctuation, syntax, and more, while simultaneously discovering how to write a compelling page-turner.

Ages

Students ages 8-18 are accepted; boys and girls; all levels of experience.

Tutoring Method

We will either work through the student's existing written pieces and/or creative writing assignments will be given to use during our sessions.

Together, we will go through the pages, line by line, and work to punch it to its highest potential. Along the way, the student will learn how to correct problem areas in grammar, sentence structure, and more, as we encounter them in their own writing.

In this way, we will use our time more effectively, covering only the topics that need to be covered, and barely touching on that which has already been mastered.

Journaling is recommended, though not required, for additional writing practice.

Locations & Times

Each 1-hour session will be held online via Skype (audio only), so a strong, reliable internet connection is required.

Colorado Springs area students may meet with me face-to-face at a coffee shop or cafe setting for our sessions. It's an incredibly cozy (and yummy) atmosphere to learn.

Days and times are flexible and can be discussed on a per-student basis.

Complimentary Consultation

Prior to our first session, we will meet via phone or Skype for a 15-20 minute conversation about your goals and what you would like to accomplish during our tutoring sessions.

Personal Writing Evaluation

Provide 1,000 original words, and I will provide you with a window into your student's writing skill level. We will discover areas that need focus and polish, plus learn how to move forward to help your student flourish in his or her writing fluency. Available to new clients only.

Personal Writing Evaluations are completed during the consultation time.

Rates & Billing
Tutoring sessions are $35 per hour. Tutoring must be paid four (4) sessions in advance. Includes:

• 2-way conversation time during the hour
• editorial/writing/submission instruction
• writing critiques (length per session is dependent upon skill level)
• writing assignments/prompts for short stories (if desired)
• 5 emails (not to exceed 30 minutes) per week of Q&A between sessions

Personal Writing Evaluations are $20 and completed in conjunction with the initial consultation. Available for single-use to new clients only.
